Canals and Dinner at Julianas CS Meeting at Cafe Libertijn

I met my colleague, Roger, for breakfast in the cafeteria and we had a relaxing breakfast before Barry came down and we had to leave for work. We had another nice day so we decided to walk. We tried a new route today and we walked along the canals. It was beautiful and we even found a houseboat that was for sale.

For lunch I had a wonderful pasta dish with creme fraiche, truffles, pine nuts and parmeggiano cheese. It was probably one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had in a dinner workplace cafeteria before.

After work I went shopping in Voorburg and then I took bus 28 back to Den Haag Centraal. I was lucky enough for it to rain the whole trip and then it stopped when I hopped off to continue shopping. I found some baking stuff at the Bijenkopf (which is a store I have started to like a lot), however I was searching for a CD with Chris Medina as my best friend wanted that for her birthday, but I didn’t find any stores in Den Haag that had sold that CD, which I found strange.

Anyways, back at the hotel I met up with Barry and Roger, and we went for The Fiddler where I decided to try to an Albino Fox beer tonight rather than the Black Mamba from the other day.

Then we went to Restaurant Julianas where we had dinner! It was a lovely place and they had really good food.We all had steak and it was so good. And interestingly enough I found a Pink Beer, called the Wieckse Rose.

It tasted more like a soda with alcohol than like beer, but thats a different story. It was quite good.

Dinner was quite nice and after dinner I decided to join up with the local couchsurfers of Den Haag at Cafe Libertijn where I had a very nice time.

Canals and Dinner at ‘t Goede Hooft

I met Roger in the Hotel Cafeteria for breakfast and then we met Barry in the lobby from where we set off for our walk to work. We passed through Chinatown and continued along the Canals for as long as we could.

I had lunch with my colleagues, Warner, Roger and Barry and then we enjoyed a nice walk around the nearby canal after lunch.

We also walked home from work enjoying the view of the Canals. As we reached downtown I stopped at Media Markt to look for a CD I wanted to pick up for one of my friends at home, but they didn’t have it.

For Dinner Roger, Barry and myself went to ‘T Goede Hooft’, which is located quite close to the hotel. The Good news is that they serve delicious food !

I had home made Tomato Soup, French Fries and for dessert a lovely Applecake with cinnamon ice cream and cream! OOO yummy.

Another nice day :D

Celebrating my birthday in Den Haag, NL

Today I celebrated my birthday and my first birthday greeting was from someone that I care about a lot that told me they dont want to be in touch with me any more which made me really sad. One of my friends who’s an early riser spent some time comforting me which I really appreciated.

Thankfully, with a start like that, the rest of the day could only get better and the birthday wishes kept pooring in. When I got out of bed I had breakfast and then I packed my suitcase. I have a job that I need to do in Netherlands for a few days and despite not wanting to leave on my birthday I had to make the best of it. Therefore I have already celebrated both with my friends and my sister.

I also had time to sit down and talk to some more of my friends and family that called to congratulate me before I had to leave. However at 11:30 I left for the airport and towards my flight to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I have been booked for a few days of work for the project I worked on this summer in Den Haag.

I had lunch at the airport. The flight was pleasant and when I arrived in Den Haag checking in at the hotel I met my colleagues, Barry and Roger, whom were also checking in.
We met downstairs half an hour later and went out for dinner, but first we stopped at the Fiddler for a few pints. The funny thing about the Fiddler is that they have very odd beer that you dont find everywhere else. I ordered a Black Mambe which was very sweet and completly black, while Roger had a Deep Throath. At least the names were very interesting, but after that we went for dinner at Los Argentinos where we had an utmost delicious steak, before we moved on to September bar  at the Grote Markt for more beer.

I can’t thank my colleagues enough. I was so sad due to the message that started my day, and they did their utmost to cheer me up. Not just because it was my birthday, but because I told them what had happened and they wanted to.

My friends from back home celebrated my birthday too (without me as I had had to leave) and they sent me a nice picture with a birthday greeting to me :D

Den Haag – Amsterdam – Copenhagen – Oslo

I woke up at 8 am and had just enough time to shower and pack before I had to leave. It was still raining and thundering from last nights awful weather. I actually woke up at 2 am by a serious hailstorm whipping towards my window and it was such huge hails that I had to go check if there would be any damage towards the windows. However what I did see was a complete and utter fog so thick that there was no visibility and what little there was was lit by such thunder and lightning that it was a beauty to watch.

I went to Albert Heijn for breakfast and I also went for a small last walk around Den Haag before I got back to the hotel again and ordered a cab to take me to the airport. The ride was comfortable and once at Amsterdam – Schipol airport I picked up some tulip bulbs as gifts for my friends as well as some souvenirs for myself.

I had a layover in Copenhagen where I had dinner and did some more shopping before I flew back to Oslo where I got another cab back home. I was so tired and I felt quite bad as my stomach was acting up again like it has so often during these past weeks – that it was quite awesome to be back home. In my apartment. Not just in a hotel room, but at home with my beloved cat that I have missed a lot during this trip.

long work day. dinner in voorburg

Today was my last day at work in Netherlands for this time and i worked until 9pm to finish up everything in time. One of my colleagues from Belgium was helping me with an issue I was trying to solve and after work we went for dinner in Voorburg at a Greek restaurant called Greeks.

I was too exhausted after the long working hours and opted for a cab back home and finally – just around midnight I was able to buy my ticket home. About time as Im leaving tomorrow morning at 10 from Den Haag.

Shopping :D

We had a nice day in Den Haag today, with sun and not so much wind.

After work I met a nice lady at the bus stop that told me that there was a bus strike announced today and that if I wanted to I could walk with her to the train station. She was really nice and she even got me a train ticket as the vending machines don’t take foreign credit cards. I payed her in cash so she would suffer no loss at my expense.

On my way back home from the central station I stopped at De Bijenkorf shopping center to pick up some nice baking utensils.

Then I stopped at Alfred Heijn to pick up some Sushi for dinner. I’ve had so many days with stomach flu while on this trip that I am turning crazy. Sushi is safe food.

Fixing upper

This morning it was raining and I was feeling really sick in my stomach again so I got a cab to work, but In the afternoon it was quite nice weather and I decided to walk home.

When I passed Chinatown I decided to get a manicure and a pedicure and it was lovely to sit back and relax and enjoy being taken care of.

For dinner I had sushi in my room. One of the only sorts of food I trust to be safe with this much stomach pains that I have had lately.
